Useful Information for your Stay in Rangiroa

What to bring ?
Rangiroa is an atoll soaked up with sun all year round.

Please remember to bring :

  • Sunscreen lotion
  • A hat or baseball cap
  • Sunglasses
  • T-Shirt for activities and tours if you are very sensitive to the sun

Each day, you will get to participate in the various excursions we offer. Most of the landings will be wet landings in shallow waters. Rangiroa’s landscapes vary from beautiful sandy beaches to reefs and corals.
We therefore recommend :

  • Reef shoes or the very fashionable Crocs
  • A small backpack if you wish to bring your camera and else on tours
  • Waterproof camera for underwater images

Please remember, French Polynesia has a tropical climate thus unpredictible weather. Although the islands are blessed with sun and warm temperatures all year round, please note that itineraries and programs can be subject to changes without notice depending on the weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. Our guests' comfort and safety will always be the priority.

Dress code onboard is casual. You may therefore bring comfortable clothing, pareo (Polynesian wrap around), tropical wear to keep your luggage as light as possible.

110v American plugs are available in the bathrooms for shavers only.

Please note that Internet is not available onboard. In most of the islands, you will find Internet Cafes should you wish to be in touch with family and friends.
Cell phones work if you can get connected to the local GSM network called "Vini". However, please keep in mind that the Haumana itineraries take you to some very remote places in Rangiroa and cell phone signal is therefore not available everywhere.

Currency and ATMs

Currency in French Polynesia is the Pacific Franc CFP.
Major credit cards are accepted in the islands.
There are 2 banks with ATMs in Rangiroa in the village of Avatoru and the opening hours are very limited. We therefore recommend that currency exchange is done prior to your flight to Rangiroa.

Shopping Opportunities

There are not many shopping opportunities in Rangiroa.
The main souvenir items that can be found on the island will be the famous Tahitian Pearls which are produced there. For pearls shopping on the island, major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) are accepted.
During the Pink Sand Cruise (4 nights), you will get the chance to visit a local family living on their own private remote islet. There will be a possibility to purchase local jewelry made from shells and mother of pearls. Local CFPs are highly recommended.

In Papeete, Tahiti’s capital, the public market will be the perfect place for gifts and souvenirs. This bustling place has it all from local woven bags and hats, vanilla beans, shells, necklaces, pareos, shirts, table mats and cloths, colorful bed linens (‘tifaifai’), imitation flowers, Tahitian oil ‘monoi’, body lotions, etc…
